Giving & Serving
Giving
Jesus set the example for generosity when he gave up his place in heaven and his infinite wealth to come to earth, grow up as the son of a manual laborer, eventually become homeless, and give up his life to pay a debt he didn’t owe. The earliest of believers took this example seriously and embraced generosity, valuing people and relationships over money and possessions. In the same spirit, we are committed to expressing our faith through giving talents, time, and money to serve people. Second Mile is a place where abilities are given purpose, schedules are planned intentionally, and money is offered consistently and sacrificially. We do not require a certain amount or percentage of income. Instead, we want people to realize that giving reminds us that God is more powerful than our paychecks or bank accounts, that we can join together, under the leadership of our elders, to use combined resources to love God and meet the needs of people in the church, throughout the city of Tucson, and around the world.
God's Economy
During the fall of 2009, Second Mile elder and University of Arizona Finance professor Eric Kelley started the God's Economy workshop series. We discussed loving money or loving Jesus, embracing life in God's economy, understanding our role as stewards, and setting up our lives to encourage giving.

Serving
Everything that has happened as a ministry of Second Mile has been possible because the people of Second Mile have been generous with their time and talents. The gathering, potlucks, service projects, art shows, retreats, and more are all possible because we serve each other with our particular giftings.
If you want to explore serving a Second Mile ministry or have an idea to serve Second Mile or Tucson, talk to an elder, your core community leader, or check out the different ministry pages on our site. If you are not in a core community but would like to be, please contact David Gouge for more details.
